Priscilla Doel - Volunteer Work

Volunteerism is an important part of Priscilla's life. As a resident of the area, she has served on the Fairfield Planning Board, been a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and served as co-chair of that Board. Additionally, she has taken special Red Cross courses and is certified to teach in both English and Spanish the First Aid, CPR, HIV/AIDS courses offered by Red Cross. She has offered these programs to Spanish speaking migrant workers in the summer. Most recently, she became certified in Red Cross Disaster Relief Services and was sent to Louisiana last June to help families who had suffered flooding from Tropical Storm Allison.

International volunteerism is also a part of Priscilla's work in helping others. In January of 1999 and 2000, she served as head interpreter with the University of Southern Maine's School of Nursing Rural health clinics in the Dominican Republic. Last year two Colby students, Jennifer Worden and Luis Perez, participated with Priscilla as interpreters in the program. This year, not being able to go to the Dominican Republic herself, Priscilla urged two Colby students to go on the program as interpreters.
